Sandstorms seems to be less a problem for Beijing this spring, thanks to the afforestation projects in the nearby regions, mainly including Hebei province and Inner Mongolia autonomous region. Shelter belts in Beijing-Tianjin rim must have borne fruit, for I haven't see any reports about sandstorms in the capital at all.
Last year a classmate of mine, surnamed Ren,showed us a picture of a car covered with dust after a sandstorm on his weblog. I got really stuned because I had never experienced weathers like that.
Now things change, but Beijing never suffers. Hebei province,a major source of water for Beijing and Tianjin, has spent heavily on the afforestation and sand control during the past few years.Quality of the water in the reseroirs for Beijing and Tianjin is improved a lot in no doubt, but the cost must be pretty much. But who cares?
